Application for Residency at Fantasy Island

This application is sourced from:

  1. Paxus’ suggestions about forming a community
  2. the old application
  3. Geophilia’s application for residency
  4. Interacting with current/past members of Fantasy Island

So here are the questions

Pillar 1: Logistics & Compatibility

This section establishes if the applicant’s lifestyle fits the physical constraints of the commune.

  • Livelihood: How do you earn your living?
  • Transport: Do you own a vehicle?
  • Duration: How long do you envision staying with us? (there is no required minimum or maximum stay or notice required).
  • Habits: Do you smoke cigarettes? Do you ingest any non-food substances, pharmaceutical or otherwise?

Pillar 2: Community Experience & Integration

These questions assess how they interact with others and their willingness to follow the commune’s specific structure.

  • Past Experience: Please describe your previous shared living situations. What did you learn or experience in those environments?
  • The Framework: Having reviewed our House Rules and Weekly Meeting protocols, what are your honest thoughts on them?
  • Lessons Learned: I’ve shared some reflections on former members of this cooperative. What is your take on those observations?
  • Conflict & Emotion: When conflict occurs, the two common responses are fight or flight. Both of these are sub-optimal because one or more parties remains injured and the “offending” party is none the wiser about why there was conflict. In many cases, conflict creates more separation and less willingness to cooperate/communicate with another party. Conflict resolution is challenge but very rewarding because (when the conflict involves 2 people), you learn more about another party and become closer. Understand that conflict is inevitable and understand that you are encouraged to express any conflict you feel, ideally using a conflict resolution format that we agree upon (e.g. non-violent communication as taught by Marshall Rosenberg, Imago Therapy, etc). With this in mind, we ask:
    • What is your suggested approach to conflict resolution?
    • When should we escalate a conflict?
    • When should we de-escalate a conflict?
    • What do you believe anger is a sign of? Is it a useful or acceptable emotion to you?

Pillar 3: Personal Growth & Mission

This explores their self-awareness and how they spend their “energy” in the world.

  • Current Path: What are your primary projects (what you are building), interests (what you enjoy), and regular activities (daily/weekly/monthly)?
  • Development: What spiritual or personal development work have you undertaken? Which paths have you explored?
  • Trauma: Have you experienced significant trauma in your life? Do you feel this trauma is currently resolved or “in process”?
  • Life Mission: What do you feel is your life’s mission?
  • The Global Planetary Message: If you had 5 minutes on a global broadcast to speak to millions, what would you say?

Pillar 4: Metaphysics & Worldview

This is the “deep dive” into their perception of reality to ensure philosophical harmony.

  • Healthcare: What is your perspective on vaccines and pharmaceuticals?
  • Certainty: Do you believe you truly know anything? Is there anything you can state with 100% certainty?
  • Perspective: Would you describe yourself as an absolutist or a contextualist?
  • The Nature of Reality:
    • How do you define Love, Truth, and Reality?
    • Who/what is responsible for your experiences? Is reality created by you, co-created, or governed by a higher power (and if so, how do you define that power)?
    • Who are you, and do you believe there is anything truly “outside” of you?
    • What realities do you believe exist beyond what we are perceiving in this moment?
